Ashley and Alan’s wedding was pure magic—every detail was a reflection of their personalities and love story! From Ashley’s embroidered veil to Alan’s dark green velvet suit, they looked like they’d stepped right out of a fairy tale. Ever the movie buffs, their ceremony featured epic scores from beloved films, culminating in Ashley’s breathtaking walk down the aisle to music from The Lord of the Rings. I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself with 5 facts about me to celebrate the new year!
1 - My favorite emojis: 💛☺️✨🌞🫶🏻
2 - I like to watch and read the same movies and books over and over again. I’ll mix things up with new media, of course, but there is something so comforting about rewatching/rereading my favorites.
3 - I went to space camp at NASA when I was 9 which was exactly as cool as it sounds! 👩🏻‍🚀 🚀🛰️ Seriously, if I could go as an adult, I would.
4 - Rootbeer is my favorite soda.
5 - I moved across the country to Washington state about a year ago and it is by far one of the best big life decisions I have ever made. I live about an hour north of Seattle in an area known as the Skagit Valley. I can’t wait to continue meeting and photographing all of the amazing people who call the PNW their home.

I’m so excited to see what this year brings! Like for pretty much everyone else, this time of year brings a lot of self-reflection… feelings of accomplishment and failure, loss and regret—but also, more importantly, feelings of hope and the promise of a fresh start.

To be completely honest, I was feeling pretty down on myself about my business progress this past year, but Scott pointed out that I was comparing my first year in business in a new state to my last year of business in my hometown. Total apples-to-oranges situation. When I shifted my perspective and compared my first year in WA to my first, second, or even third year in business, I felt so proud of how far I’ve come.
All that being said, as you think about the New Year, your goals, and dreams, be gentle with yourself as you reflect on what worked and what didn’t last year. We got this! 2025, y’all!

Ever wondered what makes a wedding “micro,” “intimate,” or “small”? Or how many guests turn a wedding into a big celebration? While there aren’t strict rules, here’s a handy guide to wedding size categories:

💍 Elopement: 0-15 guests (usually involves travel)
💍 Micro Wedding: 0-15ish guests (intentionally small)
💍 Intimate Wedding: 15-35 guests
💍 Small Wedding: 35-75 guests
💍 Medium Wedding: 75-150 guests
💍 Large Wedding: 150+ guests
💍 Extra-Large Wedding: 300+ guests

I feel like you are the type of person who LOVES them or someone who is totally ambivalent about capturing detail/flat lay photos. In my experience there hasn’t been much in between. Remember that there is no right or wrong answer! Your wedding, your rules!  🥳 However if you are the type of person who LOVES detail/flat lay photos, here are my top tips for getting the best detail photos! 📣 1. Tell Your Photographer You Love Details This may seem obvious, but I promise that your photographer loves to know what photos are going to be most important to you on your wedding day so that they can be prepared! When I know that a couple really wants good detail photos, I will schedule more time during the getting ready portion of the day.  ⏳ 2. Schedule Time For the Detail/Flat Lay Shots The best detail photos are deceptively complex and it really does require more time than you might assume to capture these photos. When you are creating your wedding day timeline ask your photographer how much time they will need specifically for detail photos. I personally like to have at LEAST 20-30 minutes to capture the best flat lay detail shots, but I know many photographers that require 45-60 minutes to capture details! 💍 3. Plan Ahead and Come Prepared
Think about what items you would like included in your detail photos and don’t be afraid to think outside the box! The absolute best flat lay photos will tell the overall story and showcase the overall vibe of your wedding day! Think about the items that you’d like included and have them gathered and ready to go on the morning of your wedding so that you aren’t searching for lots of little items in different places. Here are some examples of items that can add a lot of visual interest to your detail/flat lay photos:  - Heirloom pieces from family members: jewelry, handkerchief, lockets, brooches, etc
- Vintage or unique stamps
- Embellishments like ribbon or wax seals
- Fresh florals cuttings from your florist that match your bouquet

I’m a wedding/elopement, and family photographer based out of the Skagit Valley area of Washington state. I moved up to WA from Tx November 2023. Moving across the country has been a lot of work and I’m still trying to grow my business to be what it was back in my hometown, but it has be so WORTH IT. Before I even had plans to move to Washington State, I knew about @christiansonsnursery and dreamed of one day being able to photograph a wedding in their beautiful gardens. Three reasons I recommend an engagement photoshoot:
1. It is totally normal to feel a little bit nervous in front of a camera, especially if you aren’t used to taking professional photos. Engagement photoshoots give you and your fiancé a chance to experience what it is like to be in front of a camera together so that it doesn’t feel as intimidating on your wedding day!
2. With a little extra planning you can schedule your makeup trial on the same day as your engagement photos which gives you the opportunity to see how your makeup looks in photos.
3. You can use your engagement photos for save the dates as well as decor at your wedding.
